Mechanical Engineer - Asset Inspection

Job Description : The Mechanical Engineer will be highly motivated and become part of a specialist asset integrity and inspection team in Birmingham, working on a varied portfolio of projects providing technical input through visits to factories and construction sites, and desk studies and design support, and will be expected to manage a portfolio of projects and maintain client relationships.

Responsibilities of the role will include:
Carry out inspection, auditing and technical overviews of heavy mechanical engineering plant and equipment, including rotating machinery and structural steelwork.
Prepare technical reports and other documentation.
Diversify current skills to other market sectors as required.
Ensure sound technical judgements and safe working practice by compliance with quality, environmental and safety standards and directives, even whilst working under very tight timescales.
Liaise with other staff in the Birmingham office and other parts of the company both in the UK and overseas.
Project manage own portfolio of projects as required, after a suitable period of training in company specific procedures, such as the financial and quality processes.

Candidate Specification : The candidate will be looking to develop their career and their skill set in a varied and challenging role. This position will demand that the successful candidate has strong technical competencies as well as a personal comfort with client liaison and business development.

The successful candidate should have the following attributes:
Be highly independent and technically competent.
Have inspection, testing and manufacturing experience, ideally from heavy industry.
Possess a good working knowledge of quality assurance practices and have good technical report writing skills,
Have a good level of computer literacy.
Will be expected to assist with project management tasks and contribute to proposal writing and business development from the outset.
Possess a degree in mechanical or production engineering.
Membership of a relevant engineering institution (eg IMechE) and professional registration should either be held, or be in the process of being obtained.
Will be expected to hold a valid driving licence and travel throughout the UK and the World depending upon the requirements of the projects at the time.
Must be fully familiar with standard “Office” tools, and able to undertake presentations to higher management, and external clients, on any aspect of projects in his control.
