Job Description
Responsibility for all Chemistry and Microbiology Production and Facilities functions. Ensuring that analysis is undertaken correctly and within the time constraints specified by the client. Analysis to be carried out in the most cost-effective manner available to the company, whilst maintaining and developing a strong team.

Manage the Health and Safety, production, performance, quality and profitability of the Operations and Facilities Team in line with annual budgets set by the Executive Team.


ORGANISATION

The role reports to the Operations Director and has direct responsibility for up to 100 FTE and a management structure consisting of Team Leaders and Departmental Managers. The role has significant influence across the Senior Management Team, particularly in Sales, Quality, Projects and Operations.

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

Ensure that laboratory operates within current UK H&S legislation and adheres to the policy and procedures. Maintain the Environmental Management System and ensure compliance. Create a safe working culture on site.
Ensure that samples are processed in line with the operational performance targets set in conjunction with the Operations Director.
Liaise with the Provincial Operations ensuring synergy and smooth transfer of samples between sites without undue delay to the sample turn round time.
Budgetary responsibility for performance of the business including meeting cost control targets whilst ensuring that direct and indirect costs are managed appropriately and in-line with Sales projections / forecasts to realise Plc profit targets.
Drive Capacity and Process changes to optimise Laboratory efficiency and throughput to maintain a focus on the continual reduction of production costs.
Responsible for maintenance and development of the ISO17025 that covers internal and external operations. Ensure ongoing compliance and improvement of operating procedures to satisfy internal and external auditing schemes.
Operate site within Human Resources framework and ensure all workplace regulations and procedures are achieved.
Ensure that the quality of analysis achieves required levels to satisfy client requirements

Depth and Range of Technical Know How

A detailed knowledge and working experience of High Volume Production Laboratory Operations and associated quality systems.
Ideally the candidate will have HND/HNC/Degree or equivalent in a relevant science subject.
Previous operational laboratory and management experience is essential.
Must have worked in a high volume, multi-discipline production environment including Utilities, Wastewater and Contaminated Land.
Significant experience required of working within an ISO accredited business.
